Exercise Stress Test

An exercise stress test provides information about how well your heart and blood vessels function during physical activity. It involves walking on a treadmill while the intensity of the exercise is safely and gradually increased. Your heart function, including your blood pressure, heart rate, heart rhythm, breathing and how tired you feel are monitored throughout the test. Patients who are unable to exercise adequately to complete the test may be given a special medication to make their heart work hard, as it would during exercise in order to complete the test.
