Tyrone, PA- Tyrone Regional Health Network’s Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute and the Tyrone Rural Health Center are now providers in the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s HealthyWoman Program. The addition of these two offices to the HealthyWoman Program gives eligible women in Blair, Clearfield, Centre, Cambria and Huntingdon counties easier access to essential women’s health services.
The HealthyWoman Program, a program of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, is a free breast and cervical cancer early detection program. The program provides free services for those who meet eligibility requirements. Services include clinical breast examination, mammogram, pelvic examination, Pap smear and follow-up diagnostic tests for an abnormal screening result.
Eligibility for the program can be determined in a matter of minutes. The enrollment process is also easy. It involves a few questions and completion of short application. Women age 21 and over may be eligible for breast screening and diagnostics and for cervical screening and diagnostics. Younger women may be eligible if they have symptoms. Additionally, a woman must be a resident Pennsylvania, be uninsured or underinsured and have a gross household income that is at or below 250% of the federal poverty annual guideline.

While breast cancer screening typically applies to women age 40 and over, younger women who have been assessed by their health care provider to be at high risk for breast cancer may be eligible for breast cancer screening through the HealthyWoman Program. High risk includes genetic mutations, family history and some other factors. Women are advised to talk to their health care provider about their breast cancer risk.
Transgender individuals may also be eligible.
Funding for the HealthyWoman Program is provided through a grant the from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
