Bellwood Antis Public Library, Tyrone Regional Health Network/Tyrone Hospital (TRHN) and the Northern Blair County Recreation Center (NBCRC) are co-sponsoring the library’s 12th Annual Family Health & Safety Fair.
The event brings together numerous area agencies and organizations. Those who attend can take advantage of a variety of FREE health screenings, talk to a number of health professionals that will be on–site and gather health and safety information from many different agencies. There will also be activities for children to enjoy.
Community members can kick off the day running or walking in the Run for Reading 5K Race organized by NBCRC. The race begins at 8:30 am and starts and ends at the Bellwood Library. Run for Reading entry fees will benefit the Bellwood-Antis Public Library and the Northern Blair County Recreation Center. Registration forms for the Run for Reading are available by contacting the NBCRC at (814)-742-9500.
Tyrone Regional Health Network will provide free health screenings for total blood cholesterol, blood glucose, pulse oximetry, grip and pinch strength screening, balance screening, diabetes related information with a diabetes nurse specialist on–site and information regarding the broad range of services offered by TRHN in Tyrone and neighboring communities.
DaVita, a national leader in kidney dialysis care will be on hand to provide information on kidney health and the dialysis services available on the TRHN campus.
ENT Associates of Central PA will provide hearing screening and information about their services and their Tyrone office location.
Lion Care Tyrone, a service of the Penn State School of Medicine, will provide free blood pressure screening and information about the monthly Lion Care free health clinic located on the Tyrone Regional Health Network campus.
Center for Organ Recovery and Donation (CORE)- will provide information about organ donation and donor cards.
Lasser’s Shoe Fly will provide free I-step digital foot scan screening. This screening identifies arch type, foot size, pressure points and provides info that can help with selection of orthotics and footwear to help prevent foot pain and address foot comfort. Additionally, the Lasser’s Shoe Fly exhibit will include a clothing and footwear sale and a portion of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the library.
Blair Alcohol and Drug Partnerships will provide information on treatment safety and substance abuse disorders.
American Red Cross will provide information about volunteer opportunities.
Phoenix Rehabilitation Center will provide vertigo screening.
Every Life Matters will provide information on pregnancy support services.
Crystal-Gail Connections – will provide information and mini demonstrations of Reconnective Healing and Reflexology.
Altoona Area Lyme Disease Support Group will provide information on Lyme Disease and other tick- borne disease and support group information.
Blair Senior Services will provide resource information for senior citizens.
Foster Grandparent & Senior Companion Program will provide program information.
Pennsylvania Game Commission -Resources and information.
Veterans and their families can speak with representatives from Victory Therapeutic Horsemanship, a therapeutic service for military veterans.
WIC representatives will be available to provide information on nutrition resources for women, infants and children.
Burgmeier’s will have a vehicle on –site to provide shredding of personal documents up to 25 lbs for personal identify protection.
Blair County Daily Princess Yvonne Longnecker will provide children’s activities.
Jaffa Shriners will have clowns on site and provide information about Shriner’s Hospital.
Excelsior Volunteer Fire Company of Bellwood will have firemen and fire trucks on-site and will provide fire safety information.
Zumba for Kids with instructor Pam McConnell will be held at 12 pm.
The Friends of the Library will hold a refreshment sale during the event to benefit the library.
The Bellwood-Antis Public Library 12th Annual Health & Safety Fair co-sponsored by Tyrone Regional Health Network and the Northern Blair County Recreation Center will be held Saturday February 17th from 9 am to 1 pm at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library located at 526 Main Street in Bellwood. The event is free and open to the public.
