Carol Beichler will retire from Tyrone Hospital on May 31st after nearly thirty-two years of service.
In 1987, she was hired to work in the nutrition services department as a full-time snack bar attendant and she remained in her position until her retirement.
Mrs. Beichler’s duties included preparing and serving breakfast and lunch for snack bar customers, preparing items for the fresh food vending machine, and cleaning the snack bar and associated areas. Additionally, she played a significant role in ensuring that the snack bar was in compliance with the food safety rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
The customers Mrs. Beichler interacted with in the snack bar were typically hospital employees, physicians, outpatients and family members who were visiting patients or waiting for patients who are undergoing surgery.
Since some customers were very regular, it was not uncommon for her to remember a customer’s “usual” order or for her to have an order ready and waiting for a customer when they arrived.
Some items Mrs. Beichler made from scratch using her own recipes were very popular with hospital employees including her meatloaf, stuffing, potato salad and salad dressing.
“What I enjoyed most and will miss the most are the people,” said Mrs. Beichler. “I got to know a lot of my co-workers quite well.”
In retirement Mrs. Beichler plans to enjoy more time with family and indulging in her personal interests which include fishing, walking and working out. She also looks forward to joining fellow Tyrone Hospital retirees who meet monthly for lunch to keep in touch.
The Tyrone Regional Health Network family extends deepest gratitude to Mrs. Beichler for her years of service and extend warmest wishes to her on her upcoming retirement.
