GNO Altoona, Inc Supports TRHN Breast Cancer Voucher Program

The Tyrone Regional Health Network (TRHN) Foundation held its 16th Annual Tree of Light ceremony at Tyrone Hospital.  Interior trees bearing angels honoring or remembering loved ones or organizations were illuminated during the ceremony.

The ceremony included comments made by Kelly Wike, President of the Tyrone Regional Health Network/Tyrone Hospital Board of Directors, Joseph J. Peluso, CEO at Tyrone Regional Health Network/Tyrone Hospital and a spiritual message was delivered by Pastor Randy Zitterbart of Hillside Community Church in Tyrone. Representatives of Girls Night Out Altoona, Inc were in attendance and announced a donation of $34, 600.00 to the TRHN Foundation to benefit the Breast Cancer and Women’s Health Institute’s, Breast Cancer Voucher Program.

During the Tree of Light ceremony TRHN leaders recognized supporters of the Tree of Light fund raiser. CEO Joseph Peluso also saluted philanthropists who support Tyrone Regional Health Network/Tyrone Hospital. Those celebrated included the Tyrone Hospital Auxiliary, established more than seventy years ago to support the creation of Tyrone Hospital and philanthropy has continued by many other community businesses and organizations including the Women’s Club of Tyrone, Girls Night Out Altoona, Inc, the Tyrone Hospital Medical Staff, the Students and Employees of Blair County Area School Districts, TRHN Employees, the William Engelman family, persons and organizations listed on recognition plaques on display within Tyrone Hospital and countless others.

Mr. Peluso stated that philanthropic contributions have been a difference maker for Tyrone Regional and the community. “Improving care and increasing services is important to Tyrone Regional as we work to create a high level of care locally within Blair County. We want our community to experience exceptional care without having to travel distances. Philanthropy enables Tyrone Regional to help accelerate that goal,” said Mr. Peluso.

The Tree of Light ceremony included vocal selections performed by a choir of TRHN employees and their family members who volunteered their time and organized as a group specifically to support the Tree of Light event. Vocal performers included Anna Marie Anna, Chief Nursing Officer and her daughter Cassie Anna, Amy Vereshack, Vice President of Outpatient Operations and her sister, organist Leanne Davis, Sunda Baney, RN, Nursing Supervisor, Freida Miller of Materials Management, Darlene Bailey of the Pharmacy, Beth Dietrick, Assistant Director of Nursing, Gegetta Daughenbaugh, RN of Informatics and guitarist William Ferrell, RN of Surgical Services.

The Tree of Light ceremony was held in conjunction with the Tyrone Regional Health Network Foundation’s Annual Tree of Light fund raiser. Individuals may make a donation to place an angel on the hospital’s Tree of Light through the end of December.  Proceeds will be used to help support Tyrone Hospital with improvements being made to the physical plant, along with acquiring new equipment to support Patient Services.
