Kara M. Gwinn, of Tyrone, has joined Tyrone Hospital as Manager of Case Management and Utilization Review.
Her duties are to ensure that patients are admitted and transitioned to the appropriate level of care, have an effective plan of care, are receiving prescribed treatment, and have an advocate for services and plans needed during and after their hospital stay. Her duties also include confirming that a patients’ insurance plan provides coverage for the services they receive.
Ms. Gwinn has more than twelve years of nursing experience. She comes to Tyrone Hospital from Mt. Nittany Medical Center where she worked for several years and advanced to positions with increased responsibility. She initially joined Mt. Nittany as a medical oncology nurse. She was promoted to the position of Clinical Supervisor of medical oncology. She then advanced to the role Practice Advancement Specialist. In November 2018, Ms. Gwinn joined Tyrone Hospital as a casual nursing supervisor, a position she held in addition to her full-time position at Mt. Nittany.
Ms. Gwinn completed a Master of Science degree in nursing leadership and management at Western Governors University. She completed undergraduate studies at Penn State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science and Associate of Science degrees in Nursing.
Her credentials include Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Certification.
