Orthopedic Center of Excellence

We recently announced the Orthopedic Center of Excellence at Tyrone Regional Health Network (TRHN) to address the needs of orthopedic patients.

This new name better describes the orthopedic care now offered at TRHN. It references our outstanding orthopedic providers, the range and caliber of services we offer, the high quality of clinical care we provide, the level of customer service we deliver and the amenities our patients enjoy.

TRHN’s Orthopedic Center of Excellence is an exciting development that allows us to better meet the extensive need for orthopedic services in the community. Orthopedic issues affect people of all ages. It is estimated that more than 80% of people will require orthopedic care at some point in their lifetime. Additionally, the demand for this specialized care continues to increase given our aging population.

Our Orthopedic Center of Excellence evolved over the past few years through our partnerships with Blair Orthopedics (BO), University Orthopedics Center (UOC) and ProCare.

Let me review significant developments at TRHN that have produced our Orthopedic Center of Excellence:

The area’s premier orthopedic physician groups, Blair Orthopedics and University Orthopedics Center and a leading physical/occupational therapy provider, ProCare, provide services at TRHN.

The collection of orthopedic specialists practicing at TRHN has increased significantly. Jonathan Van Kleunen, MD of Blair Orthopedics (BO) and Bradley Barter, DO and Kyle Hubler, DO of University Orthopedics Center (UOC) have office hours on the TRHN campus and perform surgery at Tyrone. Additional physicians offer TRHN as a site for surgery including Christopher McClellan, DO, William Tyndall, MD, PhD, Christopher Lincoski, MD and Kenneth Cherry, MD of UOC, and Joshua Port, MD and Robert Singer, DO of BO. Physiatrist David Bozak, DO of BO provides non-surgical orthopedic care and EMG testing on campus.

Our affiliated orthopedic specialists provide care at TRHN for standard as well as more complex orthopedic issues. Collectively they provide expertise for all areas of orthopedics including joint replacement, sports medicine, fractures, knee, hip, hand, foot & ankle, shoulder & elbow.

Our affiliated orthopedic specialists are board certified. Many of them are also Fellowship trained in specialty areas within orthopedics. Dr. Kyle Hubler, is Fellowship trained in total joint replacement, Dr. Bradley Barter is Fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery, Dr. William Tyndall is Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine. Dr. Christopher Lincoksi is Fellowship trained in hand surgery, Dr. Jonathan Van Kleunen is Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, Dr. Joshua Port is Fellowship trained in knee and shoulder surgery and sports medicine.

An increasing number of physicians and patients choose Tyrone Regional Health Network for orthopedic care.

Working together with our partners, we have enhanced the entire orthopedic patient experience, from patient education prior to surgery through the surgery stay and the patient’s return to home, work and daily life.

We have developed a Total Joint Replacement (TJR) Program. To address the particular needs of patients who have joint replacement surgery. Patients receive education to help them understand and better prepare for total joint surgery and the recovery period. Care is provided following special guidelines developed by our orthopedic specialists. This insures patients receive the highest quality of care.

Our affiliated providers have a regional footprint, based on their patient draw area and offices that some have located throughout the region. Subsequently, the orthopedic patient population at TRHN has become increasingly regional.

TRHN offers a continuum of services to address the needs of orthopedic patients at one convenient location. Services include 24 hour emergency care, on campus physician appointments, radiology services including X-ray, CT scan, MRI, bone densitometry, ultrasound and interventional radiology with quick turnaround of test results, EMG testing, non-surgical orthopedic care, surgical orthopedic care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pain management services and fitness and wellness services patients can access post recovery. Additionally, we offer a swing bed program for short stay inpatient physical and occupational therapy and skilled nursing care for patients who qualify.

TRHN has consistently high scores on national measures of quality of care including surgical care.

Our orthopedic care team includes experienced anesthesia professionals that use advanced techniques for orthopedic anesthesia and for pain management following surgery. This gives patients enhanced pain control so less medication may be needed following surgery and fewer side effects from pain medication.

Orthopedic inpatients receive a higher level of attention with TRHN’s lower nurse to patient ratio. Orthopedic inpatients also have a significantly lower length of hospital stay.

A multidisciplinary team of providers including physicians, nurses, therapists, and case managers coordinate comprehensive care plans to address each patient’s unique needs. An orthopedic nurse practitioner is on site and available to address patient needs. This ensures patients receive personalized attention, reduces the risk of complications and ensures patients have the best possible outcome.

Patients who choose TRHN for orthopedic care enjoy amenities such as personalized attention, exceptional customer service, private inpatient suites, some with scenic views of the hospital’s wooded campus, free parking and more.

TRHN consistently receives high patient satisfaction ratings exceeding all area hospitals.

The work of everyone involved in our orthopedic services has positioned TRHN to meet the growing demand for orthopedic care. It has also put TRHN at the forefront of orthopedic care in our region.
