The Tyrone Hospital Medical Staff announced that they have awarded a scholarship to Ms. Allison Hosko, a student from Tyrone Area High School’s 2017 graduating class.
The Tyrone Hospital medical staff awards a scholarship annually to a senior at Tyrone High School who will pursue a health care profession.
Kelly Biggs, M.D., President of the Tyrone Hospital Medical Staff said “We are pleased to provide some support to local students who choose healthcare as a career path. Ms. Hosko and other students pursuing healthcare careers will be filling a very real need as members of the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
Ms. Hosko will attend Penn State University, the Altoona campus, and pursue a degree in nursing. Ms. Hosko said she has always enjoyed helping people and finds medicine very interesting. “I am so thankful to be a scholarship recipient. I had clinical exposure at Tyrone Hospital as a student in Tyrone High School’s Health Occupations Technology Program. It was a blessing to watch and learn from the hospitals health professionals.”
Ms. Hosko’s activities while a student at Tyrone Area High School included participation in the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) program, tennis, swimming and softball. She also hosted a secret family at Christmas. Additionally, she volunteered at the nursery at her church.
